First Real Patient, First Clinic!

Hi and assalamualaikum.

Another special post pasal year 3. Quick recap: dental student ada 2 years of pre-clinical year (i.e.: lecture, lab but no clinical session) and 3 years of clinical year (i.e.: lectures, lab and full clinical session attending the R.E.A.L patient). Third year is my very firsttttt clinical year, which means my first time treating the patient, using all the instruments and equipments on the real patient.

At the very beginning, i start buat treatment on my partner. I did the very basic one macam examination and diagnosis (which include thorough history taking, then clinical examination -check and buat charting gigi, yang korang selalu dengar dentist sebut 12 sound 23 cavity restoration bla bla bla tu, then belajar ambil xray on real patient and etc)

Then, i did my first restoration on my partner under Dr H's supervision. I belajar scaling for the first time also on my partner. I pun jadi patient dia when it came to her session la. So kitaorang kena equally divide our clinical session so that fair and square la untuk both of us.

I start doing denture on real patient masa Block 2 tak silap. Sangat susah nak cari patient gigi palsu. I kena hunting sana sini untuk cari patient. Alhamdulilah, after banyak kali kena 'lipak' ada seorang akak ni nak buat gigi palsu dengan I. She was my first patient. And very compliance. Syukur sangat-sangat.

Then, i start clinic OS. clinic cabutan. I dapat seorang aunty ni dari cousin i. Aunty ni asalnya nak buat gigi palsu separuh. Tapi since i baru year 3, i kena start dulu dengan case full denture. So, i buat pre-treatment dulu dekat aunty which is cabutan. That was my first clinic OS, with Dr. A (that day Dr baik sangat, very helpful, dapat marks yang baik memang kenangan sangat). Then i ada second clinic OS. that was the most terrible one. I memang tak perform betul that clinic solely sebab supervisor haritu sangat garang. I mental torture jugak sebenarnya. Itupun kenangan jugak bhahahaha.

Ni semua a few clinic yang I sempat attend before EMCO. Alhamdulilah dapat jugak buat clinic serba serbi walaupun tak complete requirements tapi experience tu dapat jugak sikit sikit. I miss clinic sebenarnya. Tak sabar nak return balik uni and complete requirements.

A very useful tip: once dah masuk clinic, memang akan rasa roller coaster. Tak semua yang kita plan akan menjadi. Always prepare for the worst. Kena kuat mental and physical. Nak hadap marah supervisor. Nak kena professional depan patient. Tawakkal is must. I masuk KOD setiap hari memang dah redha awal awal, apa Allah nak bagi hari ini semua tu pengajaran. Ada hari okay ada hari nangis terduduk. Yang paling penting kena prepare before clinic. Jangan masuk dengan otak kosong!!!
